Area Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Police say they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then discovered many other vandalized cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials say initial examinations suggest the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; authorities are presently not informed of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials stated they were working "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the public for tips.
A senior official said the incident left him without words and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he wrote on online, recalling the death of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
